Надеюсь, вам не нужны правила четырех типов чтения гласных?
Они ясны как день.

и от места к месту может варьироваться.

Варианты чтения -ou-
Изначальное чтение — [u:].
В таком виде это сочетание пришло из французской офрографии
(где оно сохраняется).
Долгий [u:] в английском перешел в дифтонг [au] —
это и стало типичным чтением в английском.
Однако в некоторых словах [u:] сократился до [u],
которое перешло в [^]. Имеем:
country
История -oo-. В норме это [u:] (из долгого [o:]) или [u].
В словах flood и blood u =[^].
Краткий [u] першел в [^].
Однако в словах book, cook краткий [u] сохрнился,
т.к. стяжение долгого [u:] в краткий [u] произошло уже после того,
как краткий [u] перешел в [^]
Похожую историю пережил o перед m и n:
Когда-то на его месте писали u,
но т.к. в написании он мало чем отличался от m и n,
французы заменили его на o.
Краткий [u] потом перешел в [^], а написание через o сохранилось:
cumen — comen — come

СПАСИБО!!!!!sorry, что раньше не отреагировала, я сейчас полным ходом в сдаче экзаменов. английский в конце января :s ЧЕСТНОЕ СЛОВО ОТ ВСЕЙ ДУШИ ОГРОМНОЕ СПАСИБО!!!вот только с книгой трудновато будет:(я во Франции пока учусь.тут с книгами на русском как-то не очень, а в нете на самом деле не находиться ничего.с четверга начну повторять английский...не бросайте пожалуйста, если вдруг я своей БЕСтолковой головой еще что-нибудь забуду :)

но как-то лень пока… Если сами сумеете разобраться со стихами
(хотя бы для себя), то будете отлично владеть исключениями.
